Can I get a grant or a loan to start a business?

There are no grants or loans available to assist people to start a business in Victoria.

However, there are a range of programs and support services to assist people to start up a business:

  • using the internet: the Grants and Programs Wizard is a fast way to find out what awards, grants and programs your business might be entitled to. It takes one to two minutes to get a personalised list of awards, grants, assistance programs and information services. Just follow the wizard’s prompts to see what your business might be eligible for
  • over the telephone: by calling 13 22 15 you can get information and advice on general questions about starting up a business, as well as information about licences, tax compliance and other regulatory matters
  • in person: by visiting a Victorian Business Centre or a Business Enterprise Centre (contact details can be found in the Business Victoria contacts database)
  • attend a workshop: the Office of Small Business offers starting a business workshops and seminars throughout the state. Visit www.business.vic.gov.au/workshops for dates and locations
